According to my Twitter profile I am a “Wheelchair-using proponent of disability rights and the social model of disability who likes knitting, singing and drinking tea.”
I have approximately 25 years experience as a wheelchair user and more than ten years experience as a disability-professional which has included:
- Organisation, development and delivery of a range of events & training sessions
- Voluntary work teaching independent wheelchair skills to young disabled people
- Informal mentoring of disabled people
- Consultation on various capital projects in relation to access for disabled people including elements of access auditing
- Advising & assessing disabled students in a higher education setting
- Leadership of my former employer’s forum for its disabled staff, which led to involvement in the setting up of The National Association of Disabled Staff Networks
- Membership of the governing body of a local mainstream primary school with specific responsibility for Special Educational Needs & Disability (SEND) as well as Diversity & Inclusion
